Levels of access in Marketing Cloud changed in Fall 2021.
Level 1
Level 1 is a content contributor role, which is ideal for folks whose roles are to create content, design emails, and test emails—but not send them. This role will also come with access to analytics.
The Level 1 role can:
- Access Email Studio and Content Builder
- Create emails using Email Framework templates, layouts, and content blocks
- Send tests to preview emails in an inbox
- View performance of sent emails in Tracking (opens, clicks, unsubscribes, and more)
- Create reports in Analytics Builder
- Manage local folders in the business unit
The Level 1 role cannot:
- Send emails
- View or create data extensions or lists
- Add subscribers to data extensions or lists
- View the Subscribers tab in Email Studio
- Create new templates
If you don't complete training, you will be assigned Level 1 access by default and will not be able to send emails.
Level 2
Level 2 is for email senders, including the ability to add data, create publication lists, and send emails. Because it includes all the tools of Level 1 as well, users will need to complete that level of training first.
The Level 2 role can:
- Perform all functions of Level 1
- Send emails
- View the Subscribers tab in Email Studio
- Create data extensions (standard or filtered)
- Use Convergence Cloud to add subscribers to data extensions
- Create publication lists
- Create subscriber lists and add data
- Create new templates
You must complete Level 2 training to get Level 2 access. If you have Level 1 access and have completed Level 2 training, submit a user access request to get upgraded to Level 2.
